Our Riding Program

Big Bay is a farm devoted to the exploration of the relationship between horse and rider. It is our goal to help you make that amazing and magical connection and let horses become a part of your life. We offer beginner, intermediate, and advanced riding lessons for children 6 years of age and older.

Our mission is not just geared towards riding. We seek to help people, young and young at heart, understand the amazing and emotional bond that can exist between a horse and rider.

Punctual arrivals are essential for obvious reasons. Scheduling the right horse for the right rider requires you to be there at the time reserved. Please respect the rights of the students who are waiting for their mounts to be groomed and cared for.

When weather is poor we strongly encourage our riders to take Ground Lessons.  We pride ourselves on developing our riders into well rounded horse people.

Ground lessons are 30-minute lessons designed for individuals to learn how to care for their mount. Ground lessons will cover the following topics to make sure that the individuals knows the basic, yet most important, fundamentals to proper horse handling and care.

  • Proper grooming methods, including how to identify and use the tools correctly.
  • Proper bathing methods, including how to hose off the horse correctly and what tools are involved in bathing.
  • Proper handling methods, including how to walk a horse the correct way and what you use to do so.
  • Personal space: learning to respect their space and have them respect yours.
  • Correct way to put on a halter and lead.
  • Overall general care of a horse.
